I did much less than that and ended up with a broken RC car

Ugh. I wouldn’t want to touch that one after it’s been in the salt water.

It’s fine, it just rusted some of the hardware. Got all that replaced and it’s good as new.

Some are more reliable than others. You gotta be looking for the right ones and/or be prepared to fix or upgrade them. You can buy aluminum parts for almost every RC and they’re much stronger.

I used to be into R/C big-time. But then I got into UAVs and Aerial photography...
No more money for ground vehicles.

My dad used to be big into RC aviation. Then he dropped that for photography. Now he’s talking about getting a drone for aerial photography.

My Aston service adviser wants to start an R/C YouTube channel. Since we both are always messing with our r/c cars and I have experience with YouTube via my wife’s channel (heading towards 70k subs), this has potential!

I want to start an RC channel, but where I live I can’t really drive any of my RCs. Around here is crawler territory. I’m planning on getting an Axial SCX10 kit.

I was into RC in the early 2000s, then got out. Now I find myself going back and buying the vehicles that were available at that time...that I couldn’t afford. I can’t believe the stuff I remember so well are considered “vintage” now.
Here is a Serpent Impulse I picked up recently. Needs a good cleaning! I realllllyyyy want to find a Kyosho Spider MKII World Cup. That is my dream RC, and they are rare finds today.

I got my dream RC a year ago, a Kyosho FO-XX.
This thing is an absolute monster.

Awesome! Kyosho is a great brand. I like the solid axles on that thing.

I had a really nice wood ramp with a plexiglass surface I built when I was living in California. I had to throw it away after realizing I couldn’t use it here in Washington. It made me sad :(

Fwiw, it was a free car... so I wasn’t going to put any money into it. Just mickey-moused it back to health several times. Then I got some water in the electronics and fried something. It still would work a bit but it would start smoking very quickly. One of the heat sinks was hot enough that it went black... there’s a short somewhere, obviously, but a) I don’t know how to fix it and so far I haven’t bothered to get deep into it and b) I haven’t made up my mind to drop money on it if it’s properly f*cked.
That said, I had a lot of fun with it... it was kind of like a beater car. You didn’t care about it, and if something broke you just jury-rigged it and got on with the job. I should put some pics up. I’ll see if I remember tonight.

I highly recommend the DJi Mavic, or anything from Yuneec.
Right now I’m studying professional UAS at College, meanwhile operating an Aerial photography setup for real estate and the like. It’s good money if you can get dedicated to it. Right now it’s mainly a hobby, and a backup if flying Cargo Jets for UPS/FedEx doesn’t work out

You want RC fun?
Tamiya
still offers this 1/10 Scale gem for about $160. RWD and easy to build.
Here’s mine.

I’ve got a nitro Traxxas Rustler and Slayer Pro. Been a while since I’ve taken them out. Certainly good times though for sure. Here’s my Rustler out doing some bashing.

Had Mad Force nitro 3 speed version of this truck it was just silly. Went through 3 sets of wheelie bars down to nubbins with it. Good choice!
